SDS Manager

Backend Engineer · Norway · March 2022 – Present

Query and caching performance

SQL query optimisation across the heaviest pages, improving load speed by 400%. The statistical and analytical APIs then moved onto Redis, cutting database load by 60%.

Search relevance

Customised Elasticsearch scoring so that misspelled queries still return the right document, and reworked relevance around how people actually search.

Safety data sheet extraction

Hardened a complex extraction pipeline until it reached roughly 95% accuracy — the point at which downstream features could be built on its output.

Real-time synchronisation

Real-time data synchronisation that raised data freshness by 90%.

Observability

Logging and monitoring with Kibana and Logstash, which cut issue resolution time by 80%.

Content management

A feature-rich CMS built on Wagtail (Django) with a GraphQL API.

LLM integration and MCP servers

Integrated Google Gemini and the Anthropic Claude API to automate internal workflows, and designed and implemented MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers so the models call real tools instead of guessing. Claude Code and Cursor are part of how the team ships.

Marketplace applications

Full-stack marketplace applications for international clients, built with Node.js, React, Java Spring and Python. Elasticsearch for search performance, Redis and caching for read paths, RabbitMQ for queueing, and RBAC and ABAC for access control.
